I’ve had three VERY awesome sessions this week! The first was Miss Anissa and because I love love LOVED it, I have already posted a sneak peek of her session here.

This weekend, I met up with a super cute newborn boy here in Stettler and a very fun engaged couple in Calgary! Now, you all know that I don’t typically do sneak peeks but as I will be away this week and these clients are just so great, I couldn’t help myself… (I’m very weak, lol)

I had such a great afternoon with this beautiful graduate and her awesome family! They were so sweet and accommodating, especially Anissa’s dad who was more than willing to help us figure out our rainy-day situation! ha ha

I don’t typically do sneak peeks anymore but I just could NOT help myself with photos of a young woman this lovely!

Once again, this year, I am fundraising with the team Carter’s Crew for the Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) on June 24, 2012 in Red Deer! My personal goal is $5,000 with our team goal set at $10,000!

Type 1 (or Juvenile) Diabetes is not predictable, not preventable and not curable… yet. My son, Carter (3), is a Type 1 Diabetic and was diagnosed at the age of 15 months and since then, our daily life is filled with counting carbohydrates, monitoring blood sugar levels and calculating insulin. Carter NEEDS a minimum of 4 finger pokes (blood checks) and 3 insulin shots every day to survive. To date, that is over 3,500 finger pokes & 2,600 insulin injections since diagnosis (2 years, 5 months).

Over 300,000 Canadians live with Type 1 Diabetes and we personally know of 4 other families IN Stettler travelling this same journey. The incidence rate of Type 1 Diabetes is rising by 3-5% in Canada and it is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, stroke, heart disease, nerve damage and amputation.

This year, we wanted to do something a bit different and opted to head out to the golf course…. in February… in skirts! There were a TON of giggles and we had such a blast! These women are definitely starting to become naturals in front of the camera!

After your session, I often hear how difficult it is to choose only a few images from a client’s gallery! Well, have I got a solution for you!

A while back (I’m not going to tell you how long because it’s too embarrassing to admit how long I’ve left this…) I received an invitation in the mail for my dear friend’s birthday. This friend was turning 28 on the 28th of the month — also known as a Golden Birthday — and it was a very special birthday for her to celebrate. In honour of such a special birthday, she decided to have incredible, hand made invitations done by Chelsey of Personal Touch Scrapbooking in Red Deer, Alberta.

My friend had a difficult time concealing her excitement for our invitation to arrive and had mentioned that it was “really cool!” so I was eager to receive it. When I picked up a small postal box from the mail one day, I raced home and ripped open the box as soon as I was inside the house. As soon as I opened it, I’m sure my face lit up like the fat kid at the chocolate factory and I excitedly shouted “oh my god!” and now, it sits as a decoration in my home.

Isn’t. This. Amazing?!

I’m pretty sure most photographers will agree that the question we hear most often is “Can I buy a disc of my images?”.
I’m not sure of every photogs answer but mine is “Yes! Of course, you can!”

Digital files are a great product to add to your photography session order! Once you get the disc in your hot little hands, you can send e-mail copies off to Great-Grandma in Germany, add some to Facebook (tagging your wonderful photographer, of course, so your friends can get awesome images of their own! ), create a Photo Calendar or reprint your favourites over and over again at mpix.com!

When you purchase a disc of your digital images from melissa zimmermann photography, you’ll receive it in a custom designed disc case! Besides being super cute with a magnetic closure, these awesome cases protect your disc and help you easily identify which of your many sessions is contained inside!

Before you buy a disc of your images, however, I’m going to make you promise me two things:

1) Print off your images! Sounds simple, I know, but ask some friends that have purchased discs in the past. I guarantee many of them never got around to printing them off and therefore, never make use of checking them out! Also, if they’re printed and put in an album, then in 50 years when our fancy DVD-R discs are obsolete, you don’t have to dig up an ancient computer machine to show your grandkids photos of their mom/dad as a chubby little naked baby!

2) Make a copy! Then, store the copy in a safe place (like a safety deposit box) outside your home. Ask someone who’s had a house fire how valuable an extra copy of their child’s newborn session would be to them.

Earlier in the month, I had the pleasure of attending the private grand re-opening of Bra Necessities at their brand new location! Of course I brought along my camera (and my sister in law!) and snapped some shots of the incredible new store!

If you haven’t yet been to Bra Necessities in Camrose, do yourself a favour and head down there today! Owner, Kim Turre, has some incredible products and they don’t just include lingerie! She now carries swim wear, men’s sleepwear, bath & beauty products and the most delicious chocolate you’ve ever tasted. She also carries a line of ladies underwear called Hanky Panky. Now, if you haven’t yet tried these (yes, I too was late getting some), GO GET SOME NOW! They are seriously the most ridiculously comfortable pair of underwear I own — even as a thong! They come in a ton of colours, regular and plus size and make a great gift! (I’ll take some in pink )
